The River

The South African telenovela ‘The River’ is a popular story created by Phathu Makwarela along with Gwydion Beynon. It is a production headed by DSTV’s M-Net original. Asides being viewed on DSTV, South Africans can also stream the telenovela via  Showmax, Naspers’ subscription based service.

The River began to premier in the year 2019 on DSTV’s Mzansi Magic, and premiers from Mondays to Fridays at 19:00.

In 2021, Sindi Dlathus was named the co-executive producer, by the time the movie was heading to its fourth season. By end of 2021, the producers produced the fifth season, which they aired on February 7th 2022.

This year 2023, they again produced the 6th season of the movie, and it premiered on 6th February 2023.

Who Sang ‘The River’ Theme Song

The River actress Sindi Dlathu whose stage name is Lindiwe Dlamini-Dikana is the voice behind the opening theme song on The River.

On the movie, she played the role of a callous and ruthless female mining magnate, while on the production, she added some other touches like the opening soundtrack.

Sindi Dlathu aka Lindiwe Dlamini-Dikana is a South African actress, entrepreneur and also a singer, she has been in the South African entertainment industry for more than a decade.

As one of the producers of The River, they decided to make the production process of the movie an in-house ‘thing’, and thus making Sindi front lady.

The female entertainer once stated that many people never thought she could sing and dance, however she added that she’s always in the theatre a lot. It is to be noted that she toured globally with Mbongeni Ngema, when they were performing Sarafina stage.

It was also reported that she was asked to produce the opening song for the movie by the producers, and she has also released the official lyrics of the theme song.

The song lyrics goes, “Umhlab’ ucel’ amanzi Isomiso asipheli A child cries, life is a River.

Sindi is a female celebrity who has chosen to keep her private affairs private. For a fact, I know that she is currently married to Okielant Nkosi and they both have two daughters together.

She has an identical twin sister and they usually share moments together on their various Instagram account.
